At the top of the list – don’t be in a hurry. If possible, take the time to do some digging and check the internet or the Better Business Bureau for any information you can get your hands on about the moving companies that you are considering. You will want to get at least three written estimates, letting each company know your destination and scheduling requirements. Ask about the types of services they offer and how much they charge. Additionally, ask the moving companies to break down their estimates and to provide you with a copy. Ask if there are any fees that you might receive and have them explain their claims process if you need to file for loss or damage. Plus, if you’re moving across state lines, make sure that the companies you are considering participate in a Dispute Settlement Program, in the event that a problem arises.
